The Truth About Pit Bulls

Thursday, December 11, 2014
posted by Jim Murphy

PITBABYToday, Pit Bulls really get a “bad rap.” They are perceived as dangerous and aggressive but the truth is that we’re to blame. Any animal will become aggressive if they are raised to be this way. The Pit Bull wasn’t always seen as an aggressive or dangerous dog in the United States. If  you take a trip back to World War I, you’ll find that Pit Bulls were hero’s who saved many soldiers lives. They are extremely loyal pets. Back then, you saw Pit Bulls pictures on magazine covers and in ads that depicted them in a very positive light. They were very beloved family pets. Here’s what happened.

As the 20th century moved on, the popularity of using Pit Bulls as fighting dogs created the image that they were aggressive and owned by people with criminal tendencies that came from poor backgrounds. The myth that Pit Bulls will turn on their owners in misleading. A Pit Bull as well as any other dog can turn on it’s owner if not properly raised. The issues that any dog may have, stem from it’s owner, not the dog.
If the Pit Bull is raised properly, they are  friendly, playful, smart,  energetic and a very loyal part of the family. American Temperament Tests rate Pit Bulls highly, and they often get better scores than breeds that are seen as good family dogs. So lets give the poor Put Bull a break. Adopt one, give it lots of love, a good home and raise him like he was mean’t to be raised. He will become your beloved pet for a very long time!
